I note somebody's moved the forward strap pin to the upper bout. Just curious if anybody has EVER found that an SC balances better with the pin there? Somebody had done it to mine before I bought her, and it certainly doesn't balance any better there for me. Seems to me the original strap pin point at the neck heel is pretty much the only place to balance the bass. It just concerns me that I see so many SCs with the strap pin moved like this - seems disrespectful, in a way, as if somebody had thought, 'Well despite the fact that Alembic have over 30 years' experience of building this shape body, I still reckon that it would balance better if I moved this strap pin to here . . .' As if Alembic wouldn't have put it there already if that were the case.
 
Or maybe I'm just having a bad day . . . Harrumpf. :-)

I wonder if anyone has tried tying the strap behind the nut at the headstock end of the bass very much like folk guitars used to have them years ago.
 
I guess it wouldn't look cool but I imagine it would balance very well. lol

I used to occasionally play a friend's H?fner-clone violin bass, which had lost the front strap button; he did, indeed, tie the strap at the nut, accoustic-style.  You'd start out with the neck at about 2:30, and within a few bars it would be at midnight and you'd be playing upright - what a pain.  And given it's hollow body, it probably was at least as neck-heavy as any Alembic.  Not a recommended option.

I have a SC and a BB. I put an extra strap button on the neck, about 1 - 1.5 inches north of the original.It's almost at a 45 degree angle where the neck slopes toward the bass. I find that this really does the trick and it doesn't get in the way of my playing either

IIRC, Stoney's solution is the same setup that you get when you order one through Edwin van Huik's shop.
