Here's 2 links to 2 recent eBay auctions.  Some details seem suspect.  Your thoughts please?

Bass:

Guitar:

I sent the Seller a message on eBay asking for some clarification on the guitar.  Seems a little strange, but maybe I'm a little paranoid, these days.

I don't see any of the usual scam flags.
Let us know if he asks to do a deal outside of eBay.

Seems legit to me...the guitar auction ended early...love those creme pickups.

Beautiful bass too.

It's good to have your guard up, I see the seller did post the serial #'s and I bet we'll see the other instruments from the mentioned estate listed.

I just communicated with him . Seem OK . I ask him for scale length of the Bass,  He will measure and let me know .Said he is OK with pick up in person. He is not a player by his own admission .
Seem Cool to me .______

Hey, Guys,

Jim Messaged me back on eBay and actually pulled down the guitar ad because of the inconsistencies. He said he's verifying the info and once he does he will relist.  He actually gave his last name, too and was very nice. You're right, it didn't smack of a scam, there were just a few inconsistencies that bugged me.

Plus the pictures weren't the best.  The fact that each auction was listed for a 5 day period also was good. Most scams are listed for 3 days with one small picture, no serial numbers, and the old email me first before you bid bs which are all huge red flags.

Well, good luck with whoever bids on the instruments- they look awesome.

Peace All;)

Is the case right for the bass? Also, holes in the electronics cover for string to string balance? Battery compartment is round and located in neck base? I'm NOT the expert here. Just questions.

kungfusheriff

skyboltone, if you're referring to the Series 1 bass, then yes, all those features are correct except the case which is either old and deteriorating or was made for another bass. I'm guessing it was made in the early 1980s because I had two '82 Series basses that had round battery covers.

skyboltone

Gotcha! Thanks Sheriff. Ha! Quite the cognomen you got there. Nice bass, it's gonna go up. I'm holding out for word on another series 1 that's not for sale yet. Well, maybe I'm not, it depends on the scale length and weight of this one. Hmmmm; hey poor-nigel, ready for a road trip??

skyboltone

OK. I just heard back from the seller. The series one bass is 34 scale.

That's what I just found out as well. I think Jim seems like a solid trust worthy seller. One of you might  you  might end up with a swell Series I . Good luck to all _______

KFS, I'm damn tempted as well, and I don't really play 4 string.  I would play it if I had it, but I really need a backup 6 more than a pretty 4 string...

Still.  Tempting...

That bass looks exactly like one I ordered over the phone from Susan a very long time ago, when I was in Washington State.  The case even looks similar to the beige Anvil I had Alembic order.  I doubt it is, as I was thinking I ordered it before 80 (I am severally chronologically impaired) and it is being sold in the wrong state, but we all know how these basses can move around the country - fast!  If it is, I suppose I will have to borrow against my 401K, as if it is, it has graphite rods embedded in the neck, a Circassian walnut core, gold logo, gold Schallers, and a few other nifty 'upgrades,' besides the Macassar ebony lams on it.  I sold it cheap to a Grandview kid (young, motivated player), and have wanted it back many times over the years.  I'll post the serial number to get its history and ask if I was the original purchaser, but I know I will not get an answer until well after the auction is over.  I'll ask the seller about the case, which would have a sheet plate rivieted over a section of it where an idiot placed my bass in front of an old in-wall electrical heater and it caught fire - we are talking me running outside screaming in the middle of the night with flames coming off it to wet it down in the rain and put out the fire.  Not a blemish to speak of on the bass.  I have some great memories of my old first Alembic.  I would pay a lot to have it back.
