Okay, I aquired an all-black Exploiter that the previous owner had a MIDI pickup TAPED TO THE BODY w/ electrical tape (can you BELIEVE IT??!?)and it left a tape residue on the surface. Big cleaning job! Now, I've used 'Goo Gone' on other guitars before w/ okay results. Just wondering if there was something special I could use that I don't know about (yet) to get that all-black Alembic SHINE.........w/out f-ing up the finish!

Congrats on the new bass! I can't help you on the finish question, but is this one of the exploiters from the sale with 3 black exploiters?

If so, was the graphite neck claim true?

5stringfreak

Thanks! Yep, it's one of those. Dunno about the graphite necks yet. That's how they were described, but honestly this is the worst seller I've ever dealt with. Getting info out of this guy is like pulling TEETH. Just looking for some friendly cleaning advice from anyone owning a black Alembic.......

Congrats on the new bass.  I would think goo gone would be fine, but I might give Mica a call first, just to be sure.  You're fortunate the previous owner only used tape.  Too many times I've seen holes drilled to mount the Roland pickup and the control unit.

Bill, tgo

Rich,

You could also try a little WD-40 on the tape residue. I don't think it will bother the finish, and should take the mess up rather easily. I am an electrical contractor, and I have used this with great success many times. Let us know how you make out, and post some pictures.

Pete

We use oil for such a task, the oil we have on hand is lemon oil, but any oil should do.
