What do you guys think about this bass. Price, B string etc?

I have a Spoiler 5 32  scale and it is very nice. The low B sounds great. You can use a typical long scale B string just fine. DR high beams are ones I like for it. I am thinking about selling mine to upgrade to a series but part of me is resistant because 32 scale 5 string basses are rare. Playing up in the high register is a breeze. Can't go wrong.

Pulled the trigger. Very excited !!!!

Good for you, Craig!

Don't recall having ever seen a nicer Spoiler 5-string. That thing looks like it's in mint condition. It's remarkably similar to my bass... those three purpleheart laminates are a very nice bonus too.

Looking forward to pictures in the Showcase! =)

Congratulations!  I just bought an '86 Spoiler this year and love it.  Low B is outstanding (D'Addario ProSteels) and provides the bombs I wanted to accent my playing.  I have a medium length neck (32-inch), which was also specified wider with 7-layer, maple/purple heart construction.  Your bass is beautiful and I'm sure you'll love it the same.  Greg provided me with a lot of encouragement too - he's a great consultant :-)  All the best with your new baby!

Thanks guys, I will post pics when it arrives. I have owned a Spoiler 4 string 32scale...they take regular long scale strings right? I recall medium scale strings being to short?

Yessir, regular long scale work fine. The added distance to the tailpiece makes up the difference. I use TI Jazz Flats (made for 34 scale) on mine.

I was counting up, and as long as I've been watching these, I have seen maybe five or six of these Spoiler and Persuader 5-string models for sale, one if them (the one Dan ended up with) twice. There's just a dozen or so in the whole Showcase section. I think the whole 5-string bass was just starting to catch on in the 1980's. Maybe Mica can shed some light on when and how that took off with the Spoiler/Persuader and Distillate platforms, or roughly how many there might be?

I'm 100% sure there's a thread here somewhere that our own Jimmy Johnson commented on using a Spoiler 5-string (or maybe it was a Persuader) to finish a tour after his #76AC418 was infamously stolen. Can't remember where it was... anyway, I've often wondered if that was his preference to the cone headstock began.
