Here's a slightly revised montage, including Mica's much better photo of the Beater.

It would be cool to see a bass with the latest body shape in the picture.

I agree, that would look great on a short scale bass and with the long horn may have a better balance too.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

I know that basses are a whole different animal, but I can tell you that the balance on this guitar is perfect.

Oh man, a volute!  Great guitar, look forward to hearing it at the next Chicago Gathering (hint hint).  I think you were playing the Burl at Bag End in 2009
The only thing that stays the same is change.

Jonathan, that is such a handsome guitar. I love the proportions. How well does it present itself when playing seated? That is, does it balance well, and are the strings in a comfortable position when it's on your right leg?

Paul...you are correct, sir. I played the burl (Stubby) at the last Chicago Gathering. I'll never forget it because I got paged just over halfway through it for an emergency at the hospital. I left just as they were starting Smoke on the Water.

Tom...it balances wonderfully when playing seated. At least for me, that bottom curve between the lower horn and body just naturally wants to snuggle against my thigh.
