I own this Bass since august 1983.
I?ve played with it trough whole Europe. Many basses I have now, but my Distilate is still my no. 1

Jarek Michalski (basstard)

Beautiful! I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks...

Dag Otto, hele mooie!

Otto,

Welcome to the club and beautiful instrument!
I'm wondering.
If you own the bass since 1983? It must be the pre-EVH era?
How did you get it ?

Hello Everybody,

I bought this bass in Belgium at Rudy?s Music, I don?t think it still exist.
You mean Edwin van Huik? Yes, I think at that time he never heard about Alembic. I only knows Alembic was imported only for Europe by a German Company. At that time the bass costed in the USA 1995 dollars in Germany around 6000 DM. I?ve paid 4600 dfl for it, a bargain!

I just bought an identical bass in January 2003. With apologizes to the serious musicians, I just play for enjoyment and collect guitars. I would appreciate any advice about my d-bass and will pass along any info I get.

Hi John,

welcome to the club. You have to understand: we ALL play for enjoyment. Some of us do it more than others and are called professionals. LOL
I'm not a specialist but (jeez) as far as I can see the bass on top is a Distillalte with dito electronics and body. Yours is a Distillate with dito electronics and a Small Standard body. The wood is a perfect match.
BTW: nice bass and I'm sure it will be a new gem in your collection!
Bye

Thanks Paul. Am I correct calling it a  Distillate Bass? I always thought it was a Stanley Clark model. Serial is 81D1996USA I'm waiting on a Buckeye Burl Fretless custom right now, from Bass Central in Florida. Should be here in May sometime. Can't wait!

palembic

Well ...huh .... the serial number starts with 81D ...so to my humble opinion it's a Distillate build in 1981.
(Help moder Valentino correct this if I'm wrong).
It's a small standard (SS) body and it IS a fact that Stanley uses small standard bodies.

I think you are right, Paul, it ought to be a 1981 bass.

Thank you Paul and Valentino for the info and the gentle tratment for the new guy! I'm curious. I just ordered a Fretless, short scale  Buckeye Burl Custom that is being finished in May. I ordered it through a retailer. Is there anyone at the factory I can contact about progress? the Factory to customer page  is unavailable. Thanks in advance- John

Dear dutch358, I am the very happy current owner of the Distillate in this thread (81D1996).  If you should have any paperwork on it, I would deeply appreciate receiving it.  I'll pay for postage, of course.  Thank you & good gigs!  My email is terry@uoregon.edu
