Greg, very nice!  Thanks for sharing the photos.  That's what I like most about this sight.  Great basses & guitars to look at and some really good technical knowledge shared.

Paul, welcome back!  Did you leave Finland the same way you found it?
I think you need to count your stockings there might be some missing.

The colour is really impressing. Am I the only one who thinks that the back veneer looks even more beautiful than than the top ?

musikill

I think the angle of the shot of the back may make it look more specatular but the front is very nice.  It had many fine scratches in it that I have been painstakingly rubbing out.  It is obviously easier to rub out the back than the front so that may be why it looks a bit nicer as well.

Muskill, nice bass. I notice curiously you have two strap buttons at the bottom of the bass body.
The one that you have above the standard button. What does that do to the balance of the instrument. Does it stop the neck diving or does it pull the top edge closer to your body?
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Wow.  To be honest, I'm usually a purist about keeping pretty woods natural.  But I just spent a few minutes looking at the way the transparent plum coloring works with the quilts and the neck wood underneath.  Truly unusual and beautiful.  You are very fortunate - I'll bet you get frequent compliments.  The finish is really captivating - a totally different take on the small standard!

Jazzyvee,
I'm not sure when the extra strap button was added.  It was there when I bought it but I will say that after trying both positions, the higher position helps keep the bass pulled in and helps a lot with the neck diving down.  I have got used to the balance and now rarely notice it much.  I do find that the adjustment I had to make to counter the balance does at times cause me some back issues but most of the time the problem is minimal.  If you like, I could give you the exact distance from the lower button if you wish to give it a try.
