Here are a couple of shots of my new Series II (#12837) with a Europa body and a Quilted Cocobolo top. The wood is much more beautiful in real life -- and she sounds better than she looks!

The quilted Coco Bolo is about as nice as it gets. Ive only seen it on one other guitar that was featured as a custom of the month I think. Both of those tops look great online, I wonder how much better it looks in real life?

I saw some quilted coco  bolo up at Alembic a couple of weeks ago...it does look unbelievable up close, even unfinished...I think they have enough for one or two more instruments and that's it...if I win the lottery (7000$ for top & back, I believe) before they run out I'll have a bass made with it...

1/4 top 1/8 accent laminate overall 1.65 inches.

Nice series bass! That quilted coco bolo is definitely looking GOOD. I bet it sounds Great too...   What's the layout for your controls?

Yes, the bass sounds HUGE! Sometimes, when no one is looking, I just hit the open A string and let it ring, over and over again...
 
The electronics are sort of the standard Series II controls...with a tweak.  Each pickup has its own filter control and variable Q control, and there's a master volume (all standard on a Series II).  The tweak is that I replace the standard volume control for each pickup and pickup selector switch with a master volume and pan control, which to me is simpler arrangement.

Excellent bass!!!!!!!! Did you do the electronics modifications yourself?  

That quilted Cocobolo is incredible. Is it still that reddish colour?

Truthfully, I was never happy with the way the color of the cocobolo was depicted in those photos.  You've motivated me to try to take some better pics this weekend!

That's funny about the reddish cocobolo. My MK Sig Dlx photographs much more reddish in bright light and more brownish otherwise, like it has a dual personality. I just learned to go with the flow and appreciate both.  
 
Your bass is gorgeous, either way!

This wood is incredibly difficult to photograph and get the right color. In talking with Mica about Scarlet, which also is quilted Cocobolo, she mentioned the difficulty in getting the color to come out accurately as well, and she certainly photographs A LOT of basses and guitars.  
 
What is the weight of this bass? In addition being hard to photograph, quilted Cocobolo is also heavier than regular Cocobolo, which is not a light wood. But, it is exceptionally pretty.

Steve, that quilted cocobolo looks gorgeous. Despite your dissatisfaction with the pictures, you can appreciate its beautiful grain.
 
Jon, your quilted cocobolo on that Tribute 5 is gorgeous as well. I've always loved the way Scarlet came out. Let me know if you ever want to sell.........

Finally.. a sunny day and it's warm enough to be outside!  After some experimenting, I think these pics capture the color of the quilted cocobolo pretty well, although the striking figure of the wood really has to be seen to be believed!
