Even though I have been an alembic owner since 2002, I can say that at some point during every gig I find myself distracted because I find I am listening to how great the sound of my bass is.
Last night was a case in point I was out gigging with my black Europa signature bass in the large function room instead of the bar area where I normally play in the house band for a weekly open mic session. I was straight into my small mesa rig walkabout head and 2x10 cab and WOW!
Is there ever a point when you just take it for granted you have an alembic and hence a great sound, forget about it and just get on with playing bass?
Uh...no!!
I was recently listening to some older 'basement tapes' of rehearsal sessions prior to recording a CD with a friend. I found myself thinking; 'darn that bass sounds good' and then 'oh listen now, bridge pickup with just a touch of high's' . . . . yep I love this bass.
I loved my bass sound so much once during an audition I failed to get the gig because I was too loud!
To quote Jimmy - Ha!

I've been there too though not consciously. I then asked why they didn't ask me to turn down and all I got was dead air.
(They probably were enjoying the sound, too!)
iv'e been told my alembic sounds like "glass" by my girl friend from the crowd....i guess that means crystal clear!!!.
