Howdy all - I just purchased my first Alembic! I'm anxiously awaiting a 1985 Electrum to arrive. A bit nervous - never purchased a guitar without playing it first. Can someone speak to the overall tone (and anything else) of this model. It has the 'strat' 3 pup set up.
Mods the serial number is 85E3796 - any history would be greatly appreciated. Has a name plate on it from the original owner.
Three things:
1. Welcome to the Club & many congratulations with your first Alembic!
2. The small but growing group who want their 6-string bass to have extra thin strings can most definitely tell you more,
3. PICTURES, PICTURES!
Enjoy,
Wilfred
James,
welcome to the club and congrats on your Electrum.
And as Wilfred said:
Pictures, Pictures...
Many greetings
Oliver (Spyderman)
James,
Welcome to the club! If we get a few more Jameses in the club, perhaps we can get together and take a run at the Pauls. ;^)
Peace,
James
Thanks for the warm welcome - here's a couple of pics.

James:
Welcome to the club! I just got back from a week in Key West (yea, life is tough) and saw your new axe. I have an '83 Electrum. Here is a link to pics in the Showcase section:

You should put some more pictures up in Showcase when you get a chance. The wood on yours looks very cool and unusual quilt/flame/burl maple? As you can see, mine has the two HB shape pickups. Also my electronics were modified in '93, I believe I was told, so I don't know how much advice I can give. You'll find that the guitar has a lot of sustain and is very sweet to play. Enjoy and it's great to have another six-stringer around here.

Yep - I'm a little stumped on the wood. Seller said it is KOA but seems a little light colored for that (and a bit dark for maple) - mods please help if you can. I'll put up a couple more pics in showcase when it arrives..
Can't wait, can't wait....!!
When you get the instrument, you can post the serial number and usually within a couple of days Val will post the build info - woods, electronics package, birthday, etc.
