I just read today somewhere about someone having one of the late, great Allen Woody's (Govt Mule, Allman Bros.) Alembics.
I always heard he was a huge fan of Alembic, and I am wondering if anyone knows anything about the Alembics he played. Pictures would be great, too!
I found this thread (http://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=1574) (5 posts down) with a picture of Allen Woody and his bass collection.
Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen that discussion when I searched for Woody on the Club.
I've seen a video of the Allman Brothers rehearsing in the early 90's which shows Woody playing what appears to be a Series bass.
I am a huge Govt. Mule fan, and I really enjoyed the Rising Low movie featuring Woody's favorite bassists. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Great topic! I saw him with once with the Allman Bros. in Boston, sometime around '93 or '94. Never got into the Mule until after he had passed. For some reason I thought he played an Alembic on Kind of Bird from Shades of Two Worlds but it's probably just my imagination!
Rising Low is a must see for a bassist.
If not just for the opportunity to get inside of Joey Arkenstat's head.
Joey Arkenstat is a legend! I want to get some of his instructional materials. : )
I saw the Mule open for the Allmans in the mid-90s, but I didn't pay much attention to them. I started getting into them more around 2004 and I've seen them in concert many times. Warren Haynes is one of my favorite musicians.
I also recommend the CD/video The Deepest End (I think that's what it's called), which is a live concert featuring many of the players from Rising Low. Unfortunately, it does not include Joey Arkenstat. No Alembics, either.
Here is an interview where Woody mentiones his Alembics:

rising low could have been 100% excellent but I give it a 50% because the film maker couldn't get his ego out of the way. I met and hung with woody and talked a bit about Alembic. He is greatly missed.
Did Allen have an 8string Exploiter?!?
It could have been his regular 4-string, but the first time I saw him w/ ABB in the early 90s I could swear that he came out w/ one during Whipping Post, and did a solo out coming out of the drum solo.... It was definitely an Exploiter though...
