Title: Alembic strings for fretless
Post by: fivestringdan on February 14, 2024, 01:46:16 PM
I've been using TI flats on my fretless basses for a long time. I installed the set that came with my new Alembic on my fretless Orion today. I'm sold! They sound amazing for fretless! Going to order a new set.

Be careful. My fretless rogue came with Alembic roundwounds. After a year or so playing the was a definite groove in the fingerboard around the 5th fret on the E and A strings. i ended up filling them with a mix of ebony powder and superglue.  Switched to Chrome flats since then and haven't seen any wear like that since.

Thank you. I know the strings will eventually wear the fingerboard. I have to plane the board soon so I'll get experience for next time. Good thing Alembic makes their fingerboards super thick so you can maintenance them.

Thomastik T1 flats for sure on a fretless. A bit pricey but worth it.

On my fretless basses with non coated fingerboards I like Pyramid Gold and D'Addarrio Chromes, flat wounds. On my coated fretless basses I like Dean Markley Blue Steel ,round wounds .
