Of course the next question is, why does your six string need to go back to thr Mothership? 🙊

At the moment, the primary reason is to install a midi pickup.  It seems that this is something that might work well within the context of the music that I'm playing.  I do expect that there will be a long learning curve, but I'm in no hurry; and I have plenty to work on musically in the meantime.
