Just bought my first Alembic.  It is a 1995 Epic with the Flamed Walnut upper body deck, and was represented as mint condition. Well, it is mint, there is not a mark on this bass, and the metals are bright and shiny!! I got a good deal too.

The question now- I see that the walnut front and the mahogany back are what I call open grain, and the neck has the usual seen satin poly.  What, besides a clean dry rag, should I be putting on this body?  I would think that a guitar polish would get down into the grain, and would be something I should not do.

I got the neck tools, but not the owners manual, but maybe a call to Mica might get me this important manual.

Thanks for your input on this, Bruce

Hi Bruce; congrats on the Epic!  The FAQ on finish care is here.  The owner's manual is here.  Lots of other info in our FAQ and Must Reads sections.  Enjoy!

Congratulations indeed!

Until about 1997, for most Epics, Orions and Rogues, you're looking at the Polyurethane Satin Natural Finish. So it's not open grain, just a finish that isn't horribly thick.

Take good care of her!
