Any suggestions on troubleshooting an ASC active cable?

Battery works fine (Duracell) - the light tells me so, as well as a battery tester.

Turning the switch on clearly sends a signal - you can hear a pop, but then no signal gets transmitted.

Can you check for continuity between the plugs and where the cable enters the buffer?

It feels like one of the ends of the cable has more of a "spring" to it than another.
