For connecting pickups to the preamp card, or adapters from coax connectors to a newer preamp card, align the "fangs" of the connector away from the circuit board like this:

  After 2006, the connectors on the board have a friction lock, so the alignment is more obvious on them. Please note that connectors may be in brick or white color.
