Formby's??!!!!  Is that stuff pure lemon oil?  If not, I'd be wary of putting it on my fingerboard.  There have been several discussions around here about the use of pure lemon oil.  A search should pull them up.

yeah your rite, i dont oil my fingerboard either it kills strings,but i need to get this thing refinished,however i do oil the body  with fried chicken grease!   ...LOL......

Keavin, you keep me all confused with the serialnumber12 & keavin handles especially with the different profile names and I don't even have a little wooden box.
It's great to see an old trouper like that still being used for it's intended purpose.

My bottle of Formby's is sitting at home on my computer table so unfortunately I can't check the label right now, but I used it to maintain my ex-Spoilers many times without ill result. Also, and I'm really stretching back across years here, I believe Mica may have recommended it to me.
Don't take that as gospel, though...check with the Mothership first, apply oil second.
Keavin, do you mean your bass doesn't have an oil finish like I've always assumed? I couldn't play my bass if it always smelled like chicken...I'd get too hungry to play!

Alembic recommends PURE lemon oil.  Just squeeze the bejezus out of a pile of lemon rinds - nothing else.  I have some I obtained from a gourmet type place that I keep in the fridge.  It seems to work very well on fingerboards.  If your Formby's isn't refrigerated, and doesn't need to be refridgerated, than it probably isn't pure lemon oil.  As I recall, lemon oil treaments and other products that contain stuff other than pure lemon oil can create problems. You might want to check out the past discussions on this topic.

Here's a tip: use linseed oil.

Formby's is not pure lemon oil (or at least the bottle I have isn't). I have to get pure lemon oil a our local health food store.  
 
And I agree with Blazer, linseed oil is great. I've used it on my Musicman Sabre (rosewood fretless) since 79. Ironic, the guy that turned me on to linseed oil, his name is Buddy Blaze. He refinished my 76 Jazz right before he went to work for Kramer and I believe he was involved with Vivian Campbell's White Swan guitar.

Ollie, is that White Swan or Nightswan?  I have a body and neck at home that are old Kramer surplus, and was told it was VC Nightswan..(neat thing..only bolt on I've ever had that was 24-fret and Gibson scale length!).

I know they made a Nightswan but I think Buddy did a special finish design in White hence the name Whiteswan. I don't know if Buddy had anything to do with the Nightswan or not.
Buddy made custom guitars while he lived in Dallas (Blaze Guitars) I've seen a few but never played one.
