Can someone help with and info on this bass, I just bought it from E bay.

pauldo

Hi Joey,
Congrats on your purchase.
Post a few pics and a lot of people here will be able to tell you more than you would have thought that you needed to know.

Double check the serial number, most basses have a letter after the first two digits.

You bass was made in 1982, production number is 2124,  don't know the model without a letter.

jazzyvee

Joey's profile says series I so if that is the case then there wouldn't be a letter unless it was a custom maybe in which case it would be a C.

Series instruments do not have a letter in the serial number, so not to worry about that. Do show us some pics!

Many thanks to pauldo, jazzyvee, adriaan for getting back to me, I will have some pics up today

Thanks sonicus, this is my first Alembic and I am trying to learn as much as I can about it. It did not come with the break out box or cable so I bought both from the internet, I have just purchased a new preamp board from the same guy who makes the brake out box and waiting for delivery. Obviously the nut is not original does anyone know if the adjustable nuts can be purchased ?

gtrguy

Was it missing its onboard preamp board?

jazzyvee

Shame we didn't know about the problem with the preamp board as alembic do a repair replacement service.

If you have an Alembic PF card, you can send it here for a FREE test if there is some problem you can describe. We have had a long-standing (actually, the entire length of time we've made these electronics) flat $75 fee for repairing or replacing the card with either a new one or a rebuilt one at our choice. We do charge $350 retail for a brand-spankin' new card.

I can't see anything of the high frequency noise cancelling network on the cards for sale on ebay. These would still likely need the upgrade.

Hope you enjoy the bass.

Hello gtrguy and jazzvee, the board is in the bass, but I bought the new one so I can compare the quality of the new one to possible sonic erosion in the caps etc...

sonicus

I would suggest getting the real thing from Alembic Inc. ! Including the power supply .
 Seriously ______!

joey

Thanks sonicus, does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket company that makes the pre's and power supply ? and has anyone compared ? I am new to Alembic and I had no idea these original items can be bought, I would never doubt the original parts.

Assuming you're talking about Boogieman, you could Google on boogieman site:alembicguitars.net, or use the Search function here at the site.

Thanks to everyone for all of the very helpful comments so far, as I said I am totally new to the alembic world, but I really loved what the Dead and their super team did for all of us in terms of pure tone. I would appreciate any and all info about this particular bass regarding its history. Thanks again
