I am looking at purchasing this bass today - any info on its history would be appreciated!

Learn something new every day - there were two Special Edition runs for Guitar Center. Yours appears to be from the 1997 run, with a nice maple top, a brass trussrod cover with inscription, and a brass backplate. The 1998 run added a double pinstripe laminate and oval inlays. There were 60 basses in each run.
