Hi.I recently purchased a beautiful series 1 from 1976 here in the the UK.I think it's a custom job with it's centre body veneer and maple body.I believe the neck is maple and walnut but I'd love to know for sure and if you've got any history on it that would be great.Serial number 76585

Congratulations and welcome to the club.  It might take a little while for the official word, just a few people with lots to cover at Alembic.  If you post a few pictures there are knowledgeable people here who might be able to provide some preliminary food for thought.

Back then there were all kinds of wood combinations going on that may not necessarily have been custom.  I saw a couple of photos of your bass online, beautiful!  Looks to me like walnut top and possibly back, maple core with center walnut laminate, neck maple, walnut and beech, Ebony fingerboard.  The center core walnut laminate may have been intentional or could have been to compensate for a mis-cut with the body thickness, who knows but that is a nice touch!  Beautiful, congratulations! 😊

That's a beautiful Series bass, and a nice wood combination too. I'll guess very late in December on the "Birthday".... the earliest '77 number I know of is 595.

Interesting, thanks.I do get some static noise when I turn the pickup volumes up to maximum.Not sure if this is because of its age.It doesn't bother me that much to be honest but I wonder if this is normal with older basses

Beautiful looking Series bass for sure... congratulations!

Noisy pots are fairly common on instruments that have been sitting largely unplayed. The pots Alembic uses are self-cleaning, if you rotate them back and forth about 50-100 times the static noise should go away. While you are at it flick the Q-switches and pickup selector, too, they can also benefit from being "exercised".
