Recently saw this Series I on GBase  being sold by Fretted Americana - http://www.gbase.com/gear/alembic-series-1-stereo-bass-wayl-1974-natura# - and wondered about the description.  
 
Three Alembic Ron Wickersham Low Impedance pickups (the middle pickup is slightly smaller).  Looks like 2 to me and a hum canceller that someone has put a screw through.
 
Also interested in the body laminate description - Two-piece mahogany body with purpleheart top and back.  Does purple heart really age like that,  it's beautiful, or is it another wood.
 
Of course there is also the $13,500 price tag.  A bit too steep a price for me for a bass made for Jerry Bridges, even though he's backed some big names and has a nice sound.

Yes, it's a Series I with a screw through the HX.  Doesn't look like any PH I've ever seen.

Beautiful bass. It just floors me how many people are out there trying to price-gouge in this economy with stuff.

Whew! That's a lotta greenbacks!Too much for me. You'd might as well buy a brand new Alembic Custom for that kinda dough. That might be the price for a bass that Stanley Clarke owned,signed and put up for auction to raise money for a scholarship or disaster victim. But if someone got that type of cash laying around and it's worth it to that person, then go for it. I'll keep my series Distillate and it was less than half of that asking price and a lot younger too!

Cool history, especially being a big fan of Waylon & Mooney. This also adds more credence to that early shorty belonging to Bee Spears (Willie Nelson's bassist) too!  
 
But to be honest, I read the title of the thread and was expecting some half-baked story (a la the joker) about this bass being there the day the music died.... you know.... Waylon being Buddy's bass player and all.....
