I have already talked to this guy about these activators for $75.

He said he had clipped a wire to get them out. Does anyone see anything else wrong from the picture?

Thanks,
Todd.

Todd:

Grab them QUICK!  This is an incredible deal!  Heck, I'd give you 4x that price, sight unseen, and I'd still be getting a deal unless everything in the set is totally lunched.  You are a lucky man.

Wow, I would have gone for these as well. Great price!

I got some activators for my strat and its now an incredibly flexible sounding guitar. When you get them I'd suggest getting the q-switch added to the filter. It's an amazing addition to a three pickup guitar.

After 7 hours of driving and 2 hours of souldering I have my activators installed! They sound incredible, but I think the filter pot is damaged. Should it spin around and around, or should it come to a hard stop? It has a bump as it goes around and around, but it doesn't have a hard stop. Also there are points in its travel where the sound isn't continuous. The filtering jumps.

I put the input jack where the 2nd tone normally would go and put the battery where the input jack used to be with some cotton balls so it won't rattle around. I had to put the input jack plate on upside down to get the battery to fit. I think it will fit flush so I may make me a teardrop flat plat to cover the battery.

It should come to a hard stop.  You may want to order a replacement from Alembic.

I think Bill and some others installed their jack plates upside down as well.

Hi Todd, my filter did the same thing when I got it and had peculiar jumps and inconsistencies when turning it. I sent it back to Alembic and asked them to check out and service the electronics. They changed a chip as it was faulty and also the filter pot. I asked them to add a 3 position q-switch to the circuit. It makes a heck of a difference to the tonal options. I also at the advice of a member here, turned the input jack upside down to hold the battery in the cavity better.

Todd:

Just to be clear, both Jazzyveee and I mounted 3-way Q switches where you now have your input jack.  You can mount the battery in the input jack compartment, and still have room to mount the jack on the jack plate with the plate upside down, an outie instead of an inny (innie?).  Anyway, a picture is worth a 1000 words, so here goes:

Did you get the black knobs from Alembic as well? The original strat knobs won't fit on the post.

I will call Alembic on Tuesday to talk about fixing the pot and adding the switch.

Those are Alembic hat knobs.  You can order those from Alembic as well.

I tried to buy these from him, but he absolutely refused to ship.

tdukes

He seemed like a nice guy when I met him. I had offered an extra $25 for him to ship as well. He didn't seem interested.

When I picked them up he mentioned that he had gotten curious as to why I would drive so far for them and looked them up on ebay. He didn't mention backing out, but he did say maybe he should have tried to get more on ebay.

Even at his price they were on craigslist about a month when I called him. Sorry it didn't work out for you. If I decide not to keep them, I'll keep you in mind and offer them to you for what I have in them. Be aware, I usually don't sell anything. The last guitar I sold was in 1991 (A Gibson Ripper bass. Even though I didn't really like it then, I still wish I had kept it. I sold it for $120.)

I first emailed him on 4/25.  I am surprised he held out on shipping so long, and that's probably the only reason they were still around.  If I had any friends in the area, I would have called them to make a pickup, but the closest area where I know people is the SE corner of Houston.

Oh well...Good luck with them!
