Just got a message today from eBay today that they are lowering commissions on guitars and gear to 3.5%

Reverb is already at 3.5%.  eBay matching reverb won't entice me away.  And, as a seller, I much prefer setting a price and entertaining offers to eBay's auction format.

You can do the same thing on eBay. You can choose to have an auction, list a "buy it now" and "make an offer" (w/ buy it now price also listed).

I don't think that Reverb's appeal lies only in a lower rate. It was designed to be musician friendly, and basically music-exclusive. I've been using the internet for 20 years - I have never sold anything on eBay, but have on Reverb - I personally find it more comfortable.

I definitely prefer Reverb but do get the vibe that the lack of auctioning results in people often asking prices that are way out of line. However, when I have found something of interest I've appreciated the people I've dealt with a lot more than many of whom I've purchased from on eBay. Unlike eBay I get the idea that I'm dealing with knowledgeable musicians who are able to answer all the questions I have about the equipment I'm interested in purchasing. Of course, first choice is always to purchase from those who frequent the Alembic board.

I have sold several instruments on eBay, including several Alembics without an issue. So far I have had no luck on the Club site or Reverb.

With ebay you get way more traffic and views.  Using an auction format can get you a higher price for your stuff.  I stopped selling on there when they went to 10%, but will consider them again if they stick with 3.5%.

I have Ben listing on both since January. Much faster and better results (sales numbers) w fixed price format on eBay. 3 basses that sat for over a month on Reverb sold within days on eBay.  Listing on both is wise. No cost to list on a Reverb.
