I saw that and all I could figure there must have been a decision relating to the cost or timing of returning the instrument back to stock.
We know that given the time, Alembic would have supported the repairs.
The auction description is surely leaving something out in regards to the reasoning to go to bartolini's.

What a long strange trip for that little bass

When asked if they still had the original Alembic parts, this was the reply:

They were sent in to Alembic. They wouldn't fix them and I couldn't get them to send them back. Didn't feel like driving 6 hours north to fetch em.

That's the same thing he said when I asked him why he changed them out, he probly sent them to the wrong place or sent emails to the wrong address. I personally can't believe his claim, has anyone else experienced this???

That doesn't sound like typical Alembic shop behavior to me, either.

This bass isn't the most egregiously Bart-boogered Alembic I've seen. About 10 years ago somebody put a beautiful coco bolo Small Standard Series 2 up for auction on the 'Bay; the electronics, even the knobs, were replaced with Barts. Horrible. I just stopped having nightmares about that poor little bass last week. ;)
