Love the in-depth description:

"This product comes with a case."

I wonder if that year Epic had the 'comfort' neck profile? I ask because I'm interested in that profile for my custom in the works.

Epic, Orion, and Excel (all set neck basses) would have the comfort taper unless it was custom ordered differently. There's only a handful of custom orders because unlike on a neck through build (where we don't charge extra for custom sizes), there is a lot of dedicated tooling for making the set neck basses more efficiently. Also custom programming the CNC for routing the neck pocket on a custom size.

Titan : Epic.

That was a more interesting accidental misidentification.

This bass is actually one of a special run, probably originally made for Guitar Center. Notice the fretboard inlays and the brass truss rod cover.

The GC version has clearly embossed pickups. The CL version doesn't.

The letter M is still clearly visible on the bridge pickup, just most of the lettering has rubbed off. A sign it's been played a fair lot - most of the wear appears to be on the back.

I believe Alembic did 2 special runs of Epics for Guitar Center. A run in 94 or 95 and one in 98 of 60 Epics. I have not heard of them being called Titans.

I think it's an accident. Titans were the precursors to Greek Gods... phonetically, Mount Olympus/Olympic got bass-ackwards in somebody's ears, and that was close enuff... tales of Epic.

I can't imagine how else they got there.

That said, I don't really know how Alembic arrived at the name "Epic". I'd have gone with Illiad or Odyssey. Probably why I run Water Plants and not Guitar Factories.  ;D

*the font size Gremlin really has my number today...

It starts with an 'E' like "Elan' and 'Excel' and 'Essence' and 'Europa' . However, it was not a Lotus sports car name (Europa, Elan) so who knows.
I'd have called it the 'Emma Peel' signature model...
