Repaired neck/headstock. I think it's a no-reserve auction. It'll be interesting to see how this one ends up.

At a second look, the walnut top of this one looks very much like my '81 Distillate.

There is a much better picture of the repair on the Reverb listing. Doesn't look like a very good job to me but may be structurally sound. At any rate considering the neck has been repaired I doubt this bass is worth the $4,500 the owner is asking on Reverb. Nice looking top, though. Agree that it will be interesting to see what it sells for on eBay.

Ewww.  :o  Yeah, not a pretty fix, but probably stable.

Here's the Reverb listing: https://reverb.com/item/3215539-alembic-series-i-short-scale-1981-natural-walnut

How'd I miss that?  ::)

The pictures on eBay did not include good side pictures of the repair. Those pictures were on the Reverb site. I mentioned this to the seller, who said he was correcting this. I asked Mica about the bass. She said that so long as it stays in tune, the repair is stable. If not, the repair would have to be redone. Alternatively, a new neck could theoretically be installed at a price of around $3000 (because of course neck thru). At that point however, new frets, truss rods, maybe new tuners- and of course a perfect neck. If the selling price is low enough, that might be an option for some people.
