Greetings,

This bass went up on Craigslist today. It sounds like it's being sold by family as part of an estate. The bass was described as being in excellent condition and hardly played (original owner). It includes the Alembic cord and pre. I offered to help by posting here (I have no affiliation - just want to see this end up with someone who will appreciate it!), and I'll take this post down for her once it sells.

Thanks! I sent a message with my number. Where did you get that email address? I didn't see it on their craigslist post.

I spoke with her about one of the basses for sale. When I learned that it was her father's and that she didn't know much about the instrument, I offered to help her reach a broader Alembic audience and get a fair price for it.

I always worry that if something happens to me, my kids will sell my my Alembics for a couple hundred bucks, not knowing any better...

Just realized this bass was completed shortly before my 78 Series five-string, serial # on mine is 78-1172 with a "birthdate" of 6/28. It took Mica a long time to find the build sheet for my bass. It does not include a list of the craftsmen that worked on it. Wonder if it is safe to assume it was the same crew that worked on #78-1158?

I'm sure there's an ethical flipper out there that'll give at least thousand or two...
Been down...now i'm out!

Nice looking Series bass.

The other 'Alembic Jazz Style' bass listed has a bolt on neck, which makes me think it is not a real Alembic.

I think the other bass is a "Modulus Alembic BassStar" likely built by Geoff Gould?  Geoff, who still runs Modulus and still builds bolt-on graphite-necked basses, was the guy who introduced carbon fiber to guitar making around that late 70's / early 80's. He teamed up with Alembic at that moment and laid out and baked the necks which ended up in about 50 "fully Alembic" instruments.  Pretty sure the pickups have been changed in the bass being sold here so it's a bit of a hybrid, but it might be nice.

Wishing them good luck with the sale.

Yes, Jimmy is correct.  I spoke with the owner, nice people.  It's a graphite neck with Modulus and Alembic logo printed on the headstock.  EMG active pickups and electronics.  Looks like a nice bass.  I have no affiliation.

Small nit-pick: Geoff Gould does not run Modulus any longer, and hasn't for, gosh, 20+ years now? his new(er) company is G.Gould Music.

After Modulus filed for Chapter 11 back around 2010 it was resurrected by Tony Cimperman of Planet Bass -- http://planetbass.com/
Tony runs Modulus now, and the instruments are built by Joe Perman (who I think has worked for Modulus since the very early days).

Ah, interesting!  Thanks for the correction Bob.  Aside from Alembic (yay!) are there ANY musical instrument companies still operating in their original forms?  Even dw drums has been gobbled up by Roland!  Alembic must hold some sort of record!!  Makes me proud! :D
