Dr. Henry Van Dyke, addressing the National Education Association, Feb. 1921:

"Jazz music was invented by demons for the torture of imbeciles.  The State has the same right to protect its citizens from deadly art as it has to prohibit the carrying of deadly weapons, but I do not think law can reach the matter.  It is spiritual.

Setting aside any Constitutional argument one might pose to the good Doctor as pertains to his statement, I just think that is freaking hilarious.
Especially since, as clearly it seems to have been torturing him, what does make ol' Hank his own self?

"Is not Hypnocracy no other than the aspiration to discover the meaning of Hypnocracy?  Have you heard the one about the yellow dog yet?"
St. Dilbert

"If I could explain it in prose, I wouldn't have had to write the song."
