Jerry left us 27 years ago today.  I still feel the gut punch I got when I heard it from WXRT.

I was at the Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax. (and wish desperately I was now...) But the tragic news spread like wildfire through the whole musicians campground.

Being on the West Coast, I was sleeping when an ex-girlfriend called with the sad news.

OTOH, today is Senior Management's birthday!

August of 1995 was just an awful month for me, first Jerry, then a week and a half later I was at the first west coast Sun Ra Arkestra dates after his death in 93 when we found out that current band leader John Gilmore had died back in Philly the day of the first show, then a week later my mother died. Big chunks of my life ripped out in succession.

Happy Birthday to Tina Bill!

Add my good wishes to Tina, please.

Not the best for me either.  On Sunday, August 13, 1995, I had just left my home to drive across the Bay to the Jerry Memorial in Golden Gate Park, when I head breaking news on the radio that my boyhood hero, Mickey Mantle, had died.  I turned around, went back home and grabbed my Yankee cap which I wore, along with tie-dye, to GGP that day.
