Check out the strap modification Stanley Clarke used for his bottom button.  Looks like he wrapped the end of the strap around the upper portion of the end of the bass with a string tied off on the upper horn.  If that is a good position, maybe move the button up on the body.  Not sure what that location does for balance.

I think it's a trick of the light and maybe a piece of clothing hanging over the end of the bass, but the pic is pretty small.

Except that bass was originally built with strap locks in the standard locations. Here is a link to a video that has some better shots of the strap attachment. It doesn't look like he has just screwed the strap to the bass but has some type of a strap locking device.

I can only contribute a couple of pics of the bass in an earlier state - it was Stanley Clarke's by this point but was going to have the nut & saddles redone for tenor tuning. Can't remember what was being done to my 5-string - maybe this is when I had the Anniversary electronics installed, since it has the pickup selector switch.

That is definitely a Schaller strap-lock button in the couch shots; in Rob's shot I can't tell if that's the other end of the Schaller just south of the bass, or if he has it screwed in by now & the shiny thing there is one of the snaps on his jacket - but I can clearly see the edge of the strap just where it would be in either of those cases.

Harry did you have to increase the control cavity size to get the selector switch in place?

I saw the same video on Instagram and had to watch it a couple times trying to figure out what the what I was seeing...
Still not sure what it is but certainly not 'standard issue'.

After watching the original video I think it is nothing more than keeping the end of the strap out of the way so it doesn't flop around. I suspect Stanley decided to screw the strap to the bass and in order to get the length he wanted he had to screw the strap higher up than at the normal end.

That would make sense. Is that particular bass a short scale? It looks at least medium, but always hard to tell with that little body on a large person.
