We're in the clouds right now, can't see beyond the nearby trees, but just a few minutes ago the clouds lifted enough to see a bank of fog floating between here and the far ridge.

Rob, I hear your cry on that... being in nature brings many rewards.  I have been trappped in Milwaukee for awhile because of a foolish work schedule.  I force myself to appreciate the small glimpses of nature amidst the concrete and steel, then amplify those small glimpses in to satiating bites.

We got a pretty good soaking up here in Virginia too, Dave. I haven't looked at the rain gauge yet, but I'd guess at least a couple-three inches fell yesterday. Now comes the wind. <sigh>

Related tangentially: as a Water Treatment Plant Operator, all three of the Plants I currently run are sourced from springs, one of them an unusually high flow (about 5 million gallons a day) that the City of Roanoke, Virginia quite literally grew up around. The other two springs are fractional compared to that one, one is about 2 million per day, the other about 120,000 gallons per day. Both are flowing quite well after all this wet season. We had a kinda' dry Summer/Autumn in 2019, flows had decreased some, but not dropped off enough for concern. Underground aquifers in limestone/carst will do funny things sometimes.

I was 11 when they broke up in 1975.  Having a commune in the driftless part of the state sounds like joy to me!

Their last gig was at the Karen Kupcinet Playhouse at Shimer College, where I was House Manager; great band!  Glad someone else remembers them (even if you probably didn't see them a lot at that age).

The spring was the original water source for the people that built the house and lived here before me; but by the time I bought the house, the spring was intermittent and they were using a well.  It's flow has continued to decrease over time.

Found this article about Sky Farmer by Bill Kees, their guitar player.  It looks like it was scanned and OCR'd but not edited; but it's still an interesting if short history of the band, briefly touching on the commune as well.

So far this winter we haven't yet had a good snowfall, which is a bit unusual, but this past Saturday we did get enough to make everything look nice and winter-like.
