This one hurts.  Garth Hudson, the last remaining original member of The Band passed this morning.  An absolutely incredible multi-instrumentalist.  Truly one of a kind.

May the Four Winds Blow You Safely Home.

agreed, I'll have to put on some Band today...

Oh man. Garth was a marvel.

I was fortunate enough to hear him several years ago in a very small club in our small town of Port Townsend, WA, with Maud singing. Not The Band, of course, but he still had his sound and his magical sense of musical rightness.

I need to hear Chest Fever now.

Farewell, Mr. Hudson, and thank you; the world is a darker place today.

We shall not see his like again.  And now his watch has ended.

Saw the news this morning and put on some Band, listening to the organ lines winding their way through the song.  And yes, the last one has passed.  In a way, it's as if something really special has ended, but at the same time knowing that it hasn't.  It's still here.  Just as real as anything else.

I've had The Band playing in my shop this morning.  It was a special thing they had.

My sax player found this yesterday. We are all stunned by the news and the fact that
we are just discovering this now, released in 2012 I believe.
