Tony Levin is currently in the UK for the upcoming Beatles fest in Liverpool. He has a 4-string Musicman with flat wound E A strings and round wound D G strings. Anyone try this???  Sounds like a simple solution for thump & twang!

This will be the first time in 42 years that the Double Fantasy band will play live.

Thinking this might throw a wrench into another thread about bandleaders rejecting the Bass sound.

Upright bass players mix string sets regularly. Getting the bow to 'bite' better, getting more bottom end from the lower register, I even know one cat who likes a bare gut G and D,  paired with a chromesteel wound A and E.

I guess it's all in getting what you need outta' the dang thing.

Personally, my OCD would totally fritz out.

I thought about trying this but the opposite way. I would want flats for my G, D, and A strings and round wounds for the E and B. I love the thick fat sound of the high strings when playing on flats but am not so enamored with the sound of the E and particularly B strings.
