I just ordered green LEDs for my Series I bass. They're from fretfx.com. Has anybody used these add-on LEDs...they fit on the side of the neck (no mods, no tools)...they have some sort of adhesive...

It's been really hard for me to see my neck when we play at this one club...so I thought these might help...less than 100 bucks...I chose green because they seem more organic than red or blue...plus, I'm color blind making red hard to see....the blue seemed too intense of a color...so green it is...any thoughts....thanks

You'll love them...put a set on my Rouge for same reason as you are. Dont even notice them when scaling the neck

very easy to install..I will have a set on any of my basses that don't have factory side LEDs.

Not trying to hijack....
But I was also wondering if anyone knew if the color of factory installed LEDs can be easiled changed?

I believe changing the color of Alembic factory installed LEDs would require removing the fingerboard.  I suspect that isn't cheap.

Hi tree63,
I have three Alembics, one with red factory LEDs and two with Fret FX (one red, them other blue). I love them and can't imagine going without them on stage. You've made a good decision. Congratulations!

Have Fret FXs on both my Alembics - love 'em (although I will say I much prefer the older battery housing/switch but hey, so far no problems with the new....)

My first Alembic had side LEDs.  I loved having them there so much that I've included that option on both of the customs that I've ordered.  They look great and serve a very useful purpose.

They would have to remove the fretboard and replace all the bulbs.  Which may also require a refinish once the surgery is done.  Roughly speaking I'd imagine you're going to be looking at $2000 if they don't have to refinish afterwards.

FretFX are addicting, and you soon won't want to even tune without them on! Price is main factor, since retrofitting my bass would be large dollars and long time away from home. They are fragile, as in the can be damaged by well-meaning friends who pick up your bass without knowing how and where to hold. The good news is you get to try a new color if that happens!

In the UK, we have Martin Simms who retrofits at sensible prices (?320 for side fit last time I checked).  I had them on my Orion and Martin Simms suggested red at that time (2000) as the colour that stood out best, although that is personal I guess.  The retrofit is great - as we say in UK - you can't see the join.

murray had mine done a couple of years ago..certainly a show stopper here in Teesside.

I think there are other colors that strand out more than red, especially the bright blue LEDs.  The thing with red is that it doesn't negatively affect your night vision, so you can still see your pedals, amp settings, etc. on a dark stage.  The other colors will cause your pupils to contract and you won't be able to see as well in the dark.

For my tastes and needs, leds are essential. All my black basses have them in red. My new Status was also ordered with them. I always know where I am on a dark stage. I'm awaiting my 10er which also has the side leds in red. I'm amazed that the larger companies haven't caught on to the idea as well.
