i put one of my lamps on craigslist and got this response. i have seen another response where the emailer is sending a money order yadayayada
but this one leaves me scratching my head as the buyer wants to use paypal. so i am looking for advice-Thanks- the paypal comments would seem to be legit?
here is what i got- its quite original

Thanks for mailing back,i am an Oceanographer and i am buying this for Dad, i am at sea right now, I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online, but i have it attached to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay,all i will need is your PayPal email address to make the payments, and if you don't have a paypal account yet,its pretty easy to set one up at www.paypal.com,i wil be expecting your email.I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payments.I will like to have communicate and discuss this via Phone but i am 95% Deaf and i do use hearing piece so that was why i have prefer to communicate more through Mail ...So kindly get back to asap...i need to see more photos also and i will like to know the last asking price.

ps- the price is 3900.

Scam.  Almost word-for-word identical to a message another Alembic Club member received when selling a bass on CL a few weeks ago.

How does this scam work?
The e mail does smell.
Seems like seller simply waits til the money has transfered from sellers pay pal account to sellers bank account.

That is a nice lamp! tiffany?

Jeff makes his own lamps steve. I had a link to some others at one time but it's gone missing.

Jeff,
As long as his agent will pick up the lamp, tell him you would like cash....
good luck

Change like to insist upon and you've got it-although I'd take a good hard look at any bill larger than a tenner.

I'm selling a '70's Jazz Bass on Craigslist here in Arkansas, and I just got this email today as a second inquiry from this same guy from (supposedly) Georgia.  Smells rank to me.

I am glad to hear back from you, i am buying this for my uncle and hewill surely like it, the payment will be made through check. I haveno problem with you waiting for the check to go through at your bankbecause it will be issue from my bank. It is secure for onlinetransaction, i will wait for your bank to verify and clear that thecheck is good before we can proceed with the shipment. My bank managerinformed me that the check would clear immediately at your bank as itwas from my business account. Which is confirms to all AmericanBanking Association rules and standards. Did you have more picture ofit for me to see and also email me your full name and address withyour phone number to call you before i mail you the check.

Well if it is confirms to the AmericanBanking Association standards, it must be legit right?

I did a google search for Which is confirms to all AmericanBanking Association rules and standards. I'd check out this link: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1360&p=61232
