Howdy everyone.   As a player who doesn't get much time to try new equipment much, I'm really wanting to know how Stanley Clarke gets the beautiful sound on his solo If This Bass Could Only Talk.

Hi there,
a few years ago I owned a Hughes & Kettner preamp. A great preamp, it had many features onboard. A few of them came in handy for that 'Stan-sound'. It had a 'treble boost' and a compresser onboard. When I used those, I almost had a perfect 'Stansound'! So, I suppose, if you use a good compressor, turn your treble up a bit, use lightgauge strings, turn your neck pickup way up, and most of all play the strings very intense....  perhaps you'll get there.
But I must say, I believe that Stanley has some built-in compressors in his fingertips....

I read an article/club post a few months ago where according to Stanley Clarke's guitar technician, he uses two ALEMBIC F1-X preamps in his setup.
