Happy St. Paddy's Day!  I'm even wearing green (it wasn't green when I put it on, though. Yeeeee).

A real-life riddle for the clever: my paternal great grandmother was full-blooded Irish and half English. Can you figure it out?

My Irish parents were both British subjects until Ireland's independence in 1921. I'm guessing your great grandmother lived half her life in Ireland before 1921 (and so half English)?
Happy St. Paddy's Day to you too!

Thank you Rob and all; I hope the day has been a wonder and a joy.

It's sort of a family riddle passed down through the generations from my great-grandmother, who delighted in keeping people guessing for years. I'm not like that, though it's always interesting to present it when a bunch of people were sitting around a campfire or something.

Only one person has ever got it on their own in my lifetime, and that was a ten year old girl. I asked the question and she blurted the correct answer like a game show champ. When I tell you the answer, I'll bet you can see that her biggest advantage was that she was a kid, and didn't get hung up on details.

Here it is: my great-grandmother's maiden name was English.
