Happy 4/20!

Greetings, salutations, and "high" to all my Alembic brethren all over the world from (almost) legal California.  Have a great cannabis day!

The AP ran an article today on the origin of the holiday.  Interestingly, you would think the banks and post offices would be closed today, but they weren't.  Maybe they just closed a little earlier than usual.

Thanks, Counselor!

To step into my wet-blanket legal mode, two things to consider:

People who are not citizens, even if they live in states where pot is "legal", should stay far away. Even with a green card, involvement or admission of involvement with MJ can get your deported. Immigration is going after this with a vengeance.

Also, the usual warnings about toking and driving, blah, blah, blah.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled party!

Hey, Edwin, since the onset of sanity there, your lovely state has studied the effects of wacky terbaccy on driving; weed use, corrected for all other variables,  correlates to a 1.5% uptick in accidents.  Having 2 or passengers with you, again corrected, correlates to a 2.7% uptick.

If we could only get a handle on the alcohol thing. I have to say that probably 70% of my criminal cases involve the use of alcohol coupled with ill advised behavior.

"Hold my beer, watch this!" has consequences beyond the Darwin.

Alcohol & ill-advised behavior?? Who'd a thunk it!  I say this as a homebrewer and (obviously) beer lover, but if I could twitch my nose and rid the world of booze & it's associated ills, I would not hesitate.

Smoking marijuana is more fun that drinking beer
But a friend of ours got captured and they gave him 30 years
Maybe we should raise our voices, ask somebody why
But demonstrations are a drag, besides we're much too high
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest
Anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends

Colorado now has a drive-through retail shop (opened on 4-20, what else).  Reportedly, it is the first one in the U.S.  It is in Parachute, CO.  I guess you can come down gently from ahigh.

In Vancouver, I've got at least five dispensaries in a 10-block radius of my house, and probably more that I just don't walk by on a regular basis and it's not even gonna be fully legal until next year...tony

Who knew? Parachute is pretty far from the Front Range. And pretty far from everywhere else. Interesting that they'd have this there.

richbass939

Yep, Parachute is far from the Colorado Front Range population but it is not very far from Utah.  There is also a tiny town (Dinosaur, CO .... pop. 300 or so) that is just a few miles from Utah.  They have a pretty successful liquor store and just voted in a retail cannabis shop.  MIGHT just have a booming business with the cars coming across the state line.  Dinosaur is a long way from anywhere / everything.  Not making a statement about any particular religious philosophy .... just pointing out Dinosaur's proximity to nothing but our friends to the west.

Ooh, state lines!

I'm going to keep my legal trap shut about this one! :-)
