You don't like rap ??? I'm truly shocked

That is correct; rap, like punk & grunge, is predicated on the basic philosophy of "How dare you try to deprive me of my natural-born, unassailable right to be a rock star, just because I can neither write, sing, nor play??

Peter
"Is not Hypnocracy no other than the aspiration to discover the meaning of Hypnocracy?  Have you heard the one about the yellow dog yet?"
St. Dilbert

I loved this when I first heard it over 40 years ago ,and still love it even more in current times. These "Cats" don't get enough credit in my own opinion . Whit , creative genius and trend setting ,creating a genre of artistic self expression all it's own.

Have you ever thought about running for office ?

Music is art.
Music genres are labels for 'different' art.
Labels can be considered judgement.
Judgement is often opinionated.
Opinions are like noses, everyone has one.

Alembic's have pretty noses.

I like the bass line in Ramble on, some hints of Jamerson in parts of that.  I like that whole tune in fact, the shifts back and forth from mellow to high energy are great.  Zeppelin was part of the matrix of the time.

It will be interesting to see who plays Dead tunes at the Kennedy honors and what tunes they choose.  The Golden Road and St. Stephen would be fun choices :)

In a past my old band " Dead Guise"   we played those tunes .We did most of the entire " Live Dead Album",at an outdoor festival gig for thousands of folks. That was so much fun ! We included " The Eleven" of course !

If we're voting on a setlist for the honors, put me down for Althea, and Black Muddy River. And if they have time, West L.A. Fadeaway.

That's cool, Sonicus, one of my favorite albums 😊

It would be cool if they got a group like the Kronos Quartet to do a brief version of Dark Star 😎

And Vijay Iyer to play King Solomon's Marbles, which he did a nice version on a compilation album a few years ago

Dark Star - all those other songs can be incorporated within it.  ;)

"Dark Star is always playing somewhere. All we do is tap into it."

I've seen this quote attributed to Jerry (or maybe heard him say it on a radio program). Does anyone have a citation for it?

It was in an interview with Charles Reich; I saw it in his & Jann Wenner's book Garcia: A Signpost To New Space.

Rap is an art form, but it is rhythmic poetry, not music.
