***sigh***
What did Robert Palmer sang???
some guys have all the luck...
Well ... you never know! Luck???
I guess it's hard working! !
Isn't there a story of Roald Dahl Charly and the Chocolate factory??
Well lemme tell you the story of Little Val and the Bassbuilders!
There was this little dude coming from Italy to the US to open up basses. He enters in stores, took out his tiny srevwdriver and opens backplates of basses to see if the working ticket for the utlimate bass-builders convent named Alembic (Al...?  Al-what...? Al -who? Al..something ..it has to do with beer-brewing!) was in it.
At the end of his quest in a tiny little store at the west-coast he found a lonely ugly bass in a corner. The other basses were making fun of it yieks ...you're so ugle ...how can you become a decent bass. The litlle bass was sad. But in the end it grew up to a beautifull (huh-huh ...no I'm messing up another story here).
Anyway ..after a lot of scredriving and looking behind backplates he found ... THE TICKET TO WORK FOR ALEMBIC  (...huh ...ain't that a brewery???).
Congratulations!!!

Paul the bad one

Jeeeeee-eez I really have to see my shrink.

You-hou ..anybody seen my tiny screwdriver????

Thanks guys. It is like being a kid in candy store. Every day.  And I already got to talk over the phone to brother Paul The Bad and Rami.  Hope to talk to many more of you in the future.  Mica, Susan, Mary & all the boys in the shop are real friendly and great to work with. I spent my second day doing research and looking through a ton of pictures of old Alembics.  Amazing stuff, guitars and basses of amazing shapes I've never seen.  I've told Mica we gotta scan a lot of those pics when we have time and post 'em on the site, because I know you'll all love them.

Many Congrats.

I've often wished that ALEMBIC would seriously devote some time both to their history and the history they've made.  Hope your archival leanings can take root as time permits.

Best Wishes,

J o e y

PS  This is one time I can happily say to a fellow bassist . . . . don't quit your day job !

Moder Val,

Nice gig. Somehow (though apparently not from your profile), I had the impression you resided down in the MountainView or Santa Clara neighborhood (I'm in Redwood Shores/City). Was I mistaken, or have you relocated... or do you actually commute?

Anyway, what else are you going to be doing up there besides chatting with Paul and Rami, and looking at old photos? You actually get paid for that???

Nice having you there.
-Bob

HI Val,
many congrats on this real dream job!
Wow, I am jealous....
So when you have time with the old pics,
plse find out the ones of the old Entwistle basses.... I would die to see them.....

Take care

Yes, congrats Val! That would be a dream job.

I thought you already worked for them. Now that's a job you wake up early for!

Thank you Joey, I'll do my best.

Thanks Bob. I actually live in Marin County, been in this house for over 12 years now. My commute to Alembic is about 50 minutes, a nice relaxing drive for the most part through backroads with little traffic.  In regards to my duties here...it gets worse, Bob...other than answering phones, and helping out customers, I'll be testing ( meaning : playing) all the finished basses and guitars, just to make sure everything 's ok.   Mica really had to twist my arm to get me to agree to that one...yeah, right...and then I'll be helping out with  whatever needs doing...

Mica & I are gonna be at Bassquake in Redwood City tomorrow, by the way, with a handful of Alembics...

Oliver, I have infact  come across   pictures of some of JE's basses.  Although only a few so far; still, there's plenty more stuff I haven't gone through.  I'll be at Alembic only about 2-3 days a week for now, and since I just started , I'm still orienting myself; just give me a bit of time and I will do what I can. Thanks for the kind words.

You bet I wake up early, willingly & with a smile on my face, Paul.. thank you for the support.

Thanks Dino!!  Hope you drop by  real soon. I've come across your picture too in my research...LOL..you had a lot of hair back then!  That was  fun, I gotta post that one ...

Uh Oh!!!!

How much do you want $$$$$  to bury those pix????

HA!!!  That'd be funny to see.  I don't think I've ever seen them.

senmen

Val,
PLEASE don?t forget to show us the JE bass pics!
I am dying to see them.

Take care
Oliver

Wow, what a dreamjob. I guess some of us would even do the job for free just to get hands on all the beautiful basses. I promise when I move to CA sometimes I'll volunteer for all day final quality control at Alembic :-)

valvil

I haven't forgotten Oliver, It is something I want to do very much myself. We are waiting for the new scanner; as soon as that's around I can get started.

Dino, I'm not sure you got enough money to stop me from posting that shot! lol
