Don Everly died Saturday, Aug. 21, age 84; no cause of death given.

Billy Joel:  "I fell like a jerk saying this, but if it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't be doing what I do."
Paul McCartney:  "Don't feel like jerk; I said the same thing when I met Don Everly".

We'll miss you, brother.

Lindsey Buckingham toured with him for a short time prior to the Fleetwood Mac gig, and on occasion remarks that it was a good time for him, if not his boss. You can hear a lot of Everly Bros. style harmony reflected in what he and Stevie did in years to come. Intentional or not, the influence was surely there.

The Everly brothers were truly foundational in the history of rock.   And oh, those harmonies!

Some of my first introductions to music outside of classical. :(

Don Everly of the Everly Brothers passed away yesterday. He and his brother, though not writing their hits, demonstrated incredible harmonies. Think, Wake Up Little Susie, Bye Bye Love, and my favorite All I Have To Do Is Dream

Don wrote (Till) I Kissed You, which I just played over at the "Time Sink" thread.

Peter (Cozmic Cowboy) started a thread about Don's passing here:

OK, Brian - while yes, it is true that many of the Everlys' songs were written for them by others (most notably Boudleaux and/or Felice Bryant), they also wrote some their own selves:
Don wrote "('Til) I Kissed You" & "Cathy's Clown"; Phil wrote "When Will I Be Loved", "Living Alone", & "Made To Love"; together they wrote "Man With Money", The Price Of Love", "Gone, Gone, Gone", "Green River", "I Don't Want To Love You", & "It Only Costs A Dime";  Phil also wrote "Sweet Pretender" & "Invisible Man" with Terry Slater.

Mock me if you will, but I swear I just heard a raven singing the melody to "Bye Bye Love".

See, this is why we need a "Like" button.

That is just too cool.
