Well, we've done it - we've left our day jobs behind and are retiring from Toronto to Galiano Island, British Columbia. After 32 years - time for a change. Hoping to reconnect with old friends and spend a lot of time playing music, gardening and kayaking.

Congratulations!
A couple years into retirement now, my only regret is that I didn't do it 30 years sooner,

Richard,
Glad to hear you have achieved this milestone.  Enjoy every minute of it.

Congratulations! And because of the intelligent way Canada has handled the Covid 19 public health crisis, you can actually safely go into the community and enjoy your new freedom. Just make sure you keep your borders closed to those of us from your southern neighbor who can't get our act together on this one.

Congrats!!  A quick image search suggests that Galiano Island is quite beautiful.

Man, that's GREAT, Richard. I wish you a very restful, musical retirement.  :)

hankster

Thanks!  We're excited about it. Galiano is beautiful and a bit of a time machine in a lot of ways. Very artistic health conscious environmentally aware population. I spent quite a bit of time in the Gulf Islands (Canada has these, US has the San Juans ) when I was working as a musician on the West Coast in the late 1970s. So sort of like going home except all my old friends are...old.

Still one more big adventure- driving across this huge country. Last time I did that was 39 years ago.

Congratulations!  My Dad said the only problem with retirement is you never get a day off. ???
The only thing that stays the same is change.

haven't been to Galiano in many years, but it's nice; will be a BIG change from Toronto...my folks used to live on Gambier Isl. and have moved to Gibsons on the sunshine coast. I could see leaving Vancouver one day after I'm done with bands and people...

Congrats, Richard. I'm sure you've done a lot to prepare for this and it is well deserved.  Enjoy!

Congratulations and welcome to the club. While I have had some regrets in life retiring was not one of them. Enjoy.

Well, the house is empty except for me. Truck packed up and drove away. Tomorrow morning I'll hit the road to drive across this huge country for  the first time in 44 years - since I left the road. Off to start a new adventure on an island in the Pacific. First time for everything.

What song is in your head?
