Hi I've been a fan of Alembic basses for about 15 years.I'm about to buy my first one.A used Stanley Clarke deluxe from the bass gallery in London. The saddle is badly tarnished - how easy is it to polish it.I'm told by the goys at the shop that it is usual for Alembic bridges.Cheers Kevin.

Hi Kevin; welcome and congrats!

I use Flitz Metal Polish on my bridges and other non-plated brass (you don't want to use Flitz on plated surfaces like the tailpiece).  The best results are obtained when you remove the bridge from the bass and disassemble it.  I lay the pieces out on the workbench in the order that they go back together and take my time doing the work.

I just remembered, there's a FAQ on this subject!

Welcome, Kevin.  Congrats on getting a SC.  One of mine had a very tarnished bridge when I got it.  It polished up like a mirror with just a little bit of effort.

Welcome to the club kevin and congratulations on your purchase. Flitz is a US brand. I use duraglit on the non-plated brass on my basses.

Hi Kevin, nice to meet you.  Congratulations on your purchase.  We would love to see photos.  And to concur with everyone else some brass polish and elbow grease should have that bridge shined up in no time.

Hi Kevin,
Did you buy the quilted maple one they had?  If so, it is a lovely bass.  I went in there to try a second hand MK when I was looking for mine a few months back and tried the SC.  If it wasn't for the fact I seem to be wedded to long scale basses I would have gotten her myself.  In the end I got my MK from the Bass Centre.  Enjoy and post some pictures.

Hi yes it is the quilted maple one.I was tempted by the Mark King that they've got there I've always played Long scale basses. But the bass just felt really nice I'm sort of going of big basses.I'll post some pictures as soon as I've done a bit of polishing.Cheers.
