I think I made a mistake

My story, I was a drummer until I met John Entwistle. The Who has alway been my favorite band and I was enamored by that beast of a bass and tone. Cut to a few years ago when I finally could justify & appreciate an Alembic. So, my Alembic collection until now has been Spyder#40 and a SC Brown Bass. Well, I just picked up 76-562 Zebra Series 1 and holy shit, it's on a different level. How was this available in 1976? Anyways, now I am ruined and staring at the rest of the collection. .

As an Ox fan, I love my Spyder. Can it or has anyone upgraded one to series electronics?

Also, I guess I will be looking to move my custom shop Jaco for a series fretless at some point - no disrespect to Jaco  8)

Mica - what your family and friends created is truly special and a gift of joy!  ;D

Actually, your Spyder does look to have been built "Series prepped". I see a humcanceller there. The build records should say so if indeed it is.

What looks like the hum cancelling pickup in middle is actually a foam pad for optics...

My recollection is that, except for Brown basses, the bodies on most non-Series basses are too thin to accommodate Series electronics unless, as Gregory mentioned, the bass was ordered to be prepped for the upgrade.  I can't recall whether Spyders were an exception; but like Greg mentioned, you can request a serial number lookup.

Well, that may be problematic, for the reasons Dave mentions above... Series goodies take up a lot of room. Just play the stuffins outta' 562 and enjoy it. I'm thinking Ox had one pretty close to it as well.

"Holy Shit"...yup that's about right  :)

Guys,
yeah that's true.  Back then when I had ordered my custom Dragon Wing
,,Tears for John" I had asked to add Series electronics but Susan told me
that it is not possible to add due to lack of space.
So I went only for the looks with a dummy hum coil.

Congrats on your new sonic experiences. I've had many Alembics starting in 1983 and newer owed or even played a Series despite always wanting one. So now I'm waiting on my custom Series 2. Looking forward to a similar ear opening experience as you and so many others here already know.

Continued enjoyment to you with your Wickersham children.
