Anyone see the review for the custom signature series section?  I know everyone has a right to an opinion, but what motivated this guy go out of his way to be so negative about alembic?  It's not like someone held him down and made him buy one.  I've never seen a single review from an alembic owner that wasn't stellar.  I am sure they must exist, but alembic seems to command a sublime mystique that intoxicates 99.9% of us.

Mr. Jamieson is from Fredericton, NB Canada.  That explains a lot to me, but it would be very hard for me to explain it to anyone else.  Northern Maine has basically the same gene pool as NB, the locals just won't admit it.  His review is no big deal, and he has a right to express his ignorance in any way he pleases, just as I blatantly do at times.

Of interest from his profile there, I have a Frender Jazz bass right now, you don't need to see that cus i am sure you have all seen one before, but The pickguard on it is a bit different, I just made it a few days ago. It has a few buddhist images on it and a crow and a white cow.  Nuff said.

I just read the review.  It's like reading someone who disses a Ferrari, claims a Corvette is just as good, etc., and then casually reveals that they can't afford a Ferrari, never spent any time in one, but did see one once at the auto show for five minutes.  If I can't have one, they stink anyway.  I believe the medical terminology for this is SGS  (Sour Grapes Syndrome).

If he doesn't want one that just makes for less auction competition for those of us who really do want one.  His loss, anyway.

I wouldn't spend too much time or energy analyzing Mr. Jamieson.  Different people like different things.  I've met people who've tried Alembics and don't particularly care for them. No biggie.  At least they know what they like and don't like.

Back on topic.....I'll probably cut and paste my old HC gear reviews and stick 'em up there.

That particular review has been posted in other review sites as well.  Moron.

I could'nt help it, I just had to respond. I hope that Active Bass will post it. I wasn't exactly complimentary!

It must take them months/years to post a review.  I did one on the 15th and no sign of it yet.  Looking through the posts, the newest I saw is from 2003.  Gee, alert staff!  Well, no big deal.  FYI.

As previously said, everyone is entitled to an opinion.  The thing that strikes me about the review is that the only comment to come across is that Alembic's are expensive; which they are. I also think they are good value for money as well, but no denying they are expensive. When paying top prices for any piece of equipment, be it instruments, cars or whatever, you get into the niche end of the market where people are looking for something to do a particular thing exceptionally. It might be that the reviewer could not find what he was looking for in an Alembic, but we will never know as he never said anything with regard to where he felt the bass was not 'so good'.  It seems to me that he cannot afford one and therefore is being critical of the fact that they cost so much.  Never mind, I'm sure his life will be full of disappointments which will always be someone else' fault.  I only played my first ever Alembic on Saturday (and purchased it there and then) and have to say that I'm really pleased with it.  But I have a number of other basses which I'm also really pleased with and they all have a place in my armoury.  Enough said.
