I guess you could call the finish matte. It certainly isn't glossy.

Both my Distillates, '81 and '85 are that satiny finish. I liked it so much that I had them replicate it on my Custom. 


As an aside, in that light the top looks more like walnut. The redder hue, I'd have sworn it was Vermilion. Beautiful stuff whichever species. 

I really don't think it's walnut because of the reddish hue.
