Anyone interested in an 82 Exploiter?
Great condition. No issues.

I could also use some help on identifying the top wood. Not 100% sure what it is.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Pretty bass!  I'll guess vermilion/padouk top.

It would almost be worth buying it just for the facial expressions when I show up for a bluegrass gig... with an Exploiter.   ;D

That's a Distillate/Exploiter, isn't it? Looks sweet!

No, not to me... but the half-hour I spent yesterday thinking about it was fun.   :D

Wow, Distillate/Exploiter. My dream bass! I would consider trading my regular Distillate, but I would guess that wouldn't do you any good.

Thanks! Those are good guesses. I could definitely see the possibility of it being Padouk or Vermillion.
Of those two choices, I am leaning towards Padouk.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

Older Alembic literature often referenced Padouk, but at some point (late-70's?) that term was replaced with Vermilion.

According to the Wood Database, they are essentially the same wood: http://www.wood-database.com/african-padauk/

I'm guessing the disparity in common names is a regional thing.

The top is exquisite, but the back is also really pretty, as well.  The mahogany in the wings are fine mahogany with a really nice grain to them, in my opinion; they almost even look a bit Korina-ish to me.  Really a great specimen of an Exploiter.  Good luck on the sale.

Why are some of you calling this a Distillate?
Because of the electronics?

It is very clearly an Exploiter. I am a little confused.
Thanks

Well, it is. And it is not.

The electronics and neck recipe make it a Distillate, with the Exploiter body shape. There are also Spoilers with the Exploiter shape. It is what it is.  8)

To clarify: There is not a model named "Exploiter" it is an optional body shape on any model.

OK, thanks Adriaan and Mica.
That makes more sense.

What about this one?
What model is this?

Electronics and neck recipe are those of a Spoiler. Should have an S in the serial number; the Distillate a D.
