2011 Alembic Spyder . Rare number 47 of 50 . The bass is mint. Trevor Lindsey just went through it.

LED's on the side of the fingerboard. Very rare flamed maple. I'm the second owner. It is a fantastic bass. I'm not sure i want to sell it because I have only seen one that rivals mine. The case is huge! Looking for a US sale. $13,995.00 Shipping is $300.00 The only thing i have changed is the strap buttons to the gold dunlop strap locks. I have the originals.

From Alembic:

The Spyder basses are similar to the John's personal Series II basses, but they aren't exact replicas (which would be much more expensive). The changes we made for playability are the regular 12 inch fingerboard radius, unlike John's which were totally flat, and we moved the neck to the bridge about a half an inch.

The body shape gives total access to all 24 frets with complete comfort - there is nothing in the way of your fretting hand getting to the uppermost frets. We used the same templates for the body and peghead shapes as we used on some of John's basses, and even many of the craftspeople that made his basses still work here, still crafting as we always have.

One of the decorative details we kept from the original basses was the spider web inlays on the body. These inlays are made from solid sterling silver and are done by hand. They run as deep as they are wide, so the amount of silver is quite substantial. Many people thought his inlays were brass because the silver yellows over time under the finish.

It's a good time to talk about balance. One of the things John enjoyed most about the basses we made was the balance. The large upper body half really counters the complete lack of an upper horn for attaching the strapholder, it also makes a fine armrest for between songs.

this is one of the two dream basses that im hunting for.  unfortunately, my recent un-retirement from performing dictates that i need a fretless series II a lot more than i need this kinda bass so i'm gonna sit and cheer from hte sidelines on this one.

i'm playing a lot of polkas, cumbias and country in this band so i need a bass that's gonna thump like a freaking tuba and so the fretless essence strung with flatwounds looks like my stage bass for the foreseeable future.  i'm not sure that this bass could even be set up to pump out the ooom-pa like the beer barrel polka or suchlike.  might be an interesting experiment - i took the MK deluxe to practice yesterday for a change of pace.  could not get a thumpy tone outta that thing to save my soul, so i'm guessing it would probably go the same with this one.

one thing about these spyders (and spoiler exploiters) is that they hang on a strap like no other body style bass i've every played with the exception of a stienberger XL-2.  i'll go as far as to say it's way more comfortable than the balance-k bodies.  imho.  ymmv.

so - good luck with your sale sir.  hopefully somebody snaps this up before i have a change of heart.  my track record with 4-stringers justt hasn't been very good lately so you'd think i'd know better than to even consider it.  that's what i think anyways :-)

No problem. I do think it could Polka in style. :). Speaking of change of heart, I might end up keeping this and getting rid of something else. This thing is amazing.

Spyder's are special for sure and good thing this is not an 8 stringer or I would need a good lawyer...

Thanks, I noticed that. Not a fan of ebay overseas and not a Spyder but looks really nice though.
