Regarding the string nut, I had an '85 Distillate fretless with what I am fairly sure was a bone nut. FWIW, Alembic had no record of that bass having been built as a fretless, or any detail of the nut material recorded, but that's what it was. https://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=23259.30
