Thanks everyone.  This bass has been sold.

Yeah.  I particularly like the part of the ad where the seller claims:  financial concerns mean I can only keep one bass (and obviously require a starting price higher than the price Dela quoted above).  What's next?  It was only driven to and from church on Sundays by a little old lady?

How disillusioning!

that person is doubling his money,or maybe tripling it, depending on the final bid,he only got it for 1,800,that's a smart move,it's going to sell very quick!,,because old alembics dont pop up often & to this day i still hav'nt seen one older than mine(#12)ever.

Hey gossiping fishwives! The start price reflects the knock I will take on exchange rates when the (probably) American buyer pays for it, and any profits made will be split fair and square between myself and Michael who sold me the bass. Not that it is any of your business, anyway! If I WAS the kind of person who hunted the net for good value basses then resold them for profit on Ebay, what would that make me? A capitalist, an entrepreneur: the type of person your country wants everyone to be! So cut the crap and save the disillusionment for your vote in the next election.  :o)  There is nothing untrue or misleading in the description, and I really can only afford one bass at a time. It is always a risk buying a bass without seeing/playing it, and in this case it just doesn't feel right and I can't play my best on it. Therefore rather than pay to convert it to UK power supply, ect, it is easier for me to resell it now and look for another bass. Hope that suits you all!

Paul - That's funny!  Fishwife?

pclifton2004

must be a British expression!

keavin

this is a free world and no one was trying to rip you man!,,,and quite frankly im proud to live in america.

My father emigrated to Canada from central Europe and he was very fond of that expression.  He told me that the English version (Fishwife) appeared to be translated verbatim from his mother tongue, so he was comfortable using the expression in English.  I will not describe here what it meant (to him/me), as it may offend some readers with it's political incorrectness, but I love the sound of it, and hadn't heard it for a while; thanks for the chuckle.

Hi Paul, good of you to join us, your business is your own.  Interstate 10 is an interesting name for a British band.  Did some or all of you live in the US at any time?

I've heard the expression Fishwife most of my life. The definition I know is someone who talks loud and constantly, kinda screetchy and annoying.  I think it comes from old open air markets or maybe roving carts where the person would holler out their wares.  Like the song Molly Malone.  That doesn't sound like Ellery's definition.

Hi Paul:

I have been accused more than once of gossiping (in the case at hand, correctly, I regret to say).  But a fishwife!!  That's new and I won't venture whether it's accurate.

Touche'  I'm redfaced and have shot my mouth off publicly without accurate information.  Apologies to you and to Michael for my intrusion.  Your business is indeed your own.

I'm afraid I incorrectly assumed that Michael had let go of a magnificent instrument for a very reasonable price - only to have someone use the oldest Ebay advertising gimmic in what I assumed was a disingenuous manner to turn Michael's loss into his gain.  Though I am a capitalist, Ebay trader and reseller, I do root for the home team if (think) I see someone I know and respect appear to get the short end of a deal. Apparently, I was wrong on all counts.  Again, my apologies to Michael and to you.

Now, as to saving my disillusionment for the next election: My only disillusionment is that John Kerry is the best the Democrats could come up with!!

Whew!  Did I really say all that?  How 'bout just, Whoops, sorry guys?

Welcome back Paul.  It would be nice to see you around this group.

Bill
